'zzz...' layout

Hi Scrapbookers! I’m Ayaka, an owner of be.COLORful – NYC Scrapbooking -. I have been doing scrapbooking since 2014, and currently have a monthly workshop in Manhattan, New York. (please see the blog post here to get know me more 😊)

So this is my first blog post for my layouts! I have created tons of layouts in the past years and started sharing them on Instagram account (@be.colorful.nyc) since 2018. This blog thing is one of my new challenges for the coming new year 2019! The first layout I’m sharing here is the “zzz..”layout, which would be my entry for the Let’s Get Sketchy design team call. I like the layout with only one picture so that my memorable picture stands out well! This time I used the picture of my cat Warabi sleeping on the side table.. you can easily understand why the title is “zzz..” look at how cute she is!

First, I did mixed media using watercolor – by the packaging technique and splashing colors. I used the colors in the pattern papers so that the mixed media perfectly matches to the papers.

Next, I cut out the bold strip of paper and some squares from various pattern papers and layered them under the picture.

Next, I cut out hearts from one of the pattern papers and put them on the mixed media background with crystal stones. Again, I picked the same color of stones as the paper/watercolor.

Lastly, the title, I printed out the wording and cut it out to use as a template. I poked holes and then did a simple back-stitching. It took me 30min or so but it is definitely worth it!

And then… I felt like there are many blank spaces left at the left-upper corner and right-bottom corner. But I didn’t want to put another colors as I’d like to make colorful hearts to stand out. SO I ended up with white hearts using template and modeling paste!

I like the final layout with lots of papers, mixed media and stones. Also, I like these pastel colors; pink, blue, yellow and green – these are my favorites!

One more layout using the similar sketches – this was for my Vermont trip with friends this year. Hope this also gives you another inspiration!

Thank you for stopping by and please stay tuned on my blog and Instagram! Have a wonderful day!
